Ungdommens kulturmønstring (UKM), or The Norwegian Youth Festivals of Art, is a cultural initiative for children and youngsters from the age of 10 to 20. The objective of the initiative is to stimulate young people to be creative and active, and to develop and make their cultural activity visible.
All young people between the ages of 10 and 20 are welcome to participate in the UKM, whether they sample beats & loops, dance the halling (a traditional folk dance) carve huge wooden sculptures with their chainsaw, play classical music on the piano or make 3-D animated films on their PC. The UKM is designed to be flexible and informal; it aims at tickling the participants’ curiosity, titillate their creativity and broaden their cultural horizon. The UKM is open to all young people, but has a special responsibility for youngsters that are not members of any one organization.
Jeunesses Musicales Norway and UKM cooperates to offer prize winners of UKM to play at an international stage. In 2008, Freejaz tribute played at JM Netherland's Noorderpark festival, and in 2009, the band MHOO performed at the Music Live festival in Brussels.

The Trondheim Chamber Music Festival has, since its inception in 1996, had young musicians as its main profile. With TICC/TICA the festival has taken a further step in inspiring young musicians to play chamber music at a high level.
Trondheim Chamber Music Festival is happy to present the 5th Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition – TICC 2009. The competition takes place 22. - 26. September 2009. Application deadline is April 20 2009.
The national vocal project Sangløftet, funded by the Norwegian Savings Bank foundation is a two year cooperation project between Jeunesses Musicales Norway and the Norwegian Music Council.
The project will address every singer and everyone that conducts singing activities, regardless of level, age and place of residence, and across all genres. The project was launched nationally September 15th 2008.
- The project allows us to engage and create new enthusiasm in the Norwegian singing arenas. This wonderful gift gives numerous possibilities for everyone involved, Secretary general in Jeunesses Musicales Norway, Alexander Krohg Plur says. Managing director of the Norwegian music council, Morten Hagevik agrees, and adds that he looks forward to invite all relevant music organizations and local arenas to express their ideas and suggestions for the project.
The Norwegian music council's member organizations and Jeunesses Musicales Norway's network represents a broad specter of traditional and groundbreaking organizations within the singing world. These will, in cooperation with other network partners, accomplish a wide range of local, regional and national efforts in the coming years. The three main pillars: proficiency raising, experiences and repertoire development, will contribute to innovation and enrich already existing activity.
